End the War before more lives are lost -letter Derbyshire Times

Published Date: 24 September 2009
SIR — With regard to James Eaden's letter (Mailbox, September 10), he puts forward clear, irrefutable reasons why the war in Afghanistan should end, before more blood is shed and lives lost.

Two further points have occurred to me relating to financial and public opinion issues. We have been informed that Government borrowing is now in excess of £16billion. We as taxpayers are entitled to know how much of this enormous debt has been incurred through continuing to finance the unwinnable conflict in Afghanistan.

On the second point, already in this area and across the country, public meetings have started up, drawing in people from all walks of life — including friends and relatives of those army personnel who have served and are currently serving in the conflict.

One such meeting of which I have details, will be held in the Winding Wheel, Chesterfield, early next month, demonstrating the level of concern felt by Chesterfield people and others in this area.

BARBARA HOLIDAY.
